PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

measure performance

According to the FT 15th August 2001, managing performance is back in fashion. Of course it should never have gone out of fashion but in times of boom it never seems to get the attention it deserves.

Why? Because like anything worthwhile, it has to be worked at. Most systems to manage performance tend to be driven from the top or from the bottom. In practice, it is more effective to do a combination of both, balancing the system vertically. It also needs to balanced horizontally, aligned with company strategies and objectives. Not unlike the balanced Scorecard system used by many firms today.

An in-house solution, getting everybody to produce and sign up to a well balanced Performance Management system, is time consuming and difficult to achieve. Solution Management has no axe to grind and produces plans that are practicable and useful whilst still stretching the organisation.
